The Laugh & Cry Movie Guide: Using Movies to Help Yourself Through Life’s Changes was written by a life-long movie buffm Cathie Glenn Jennings, who started with Saturday matinees in grade school. Her love of romantic comedy has helped her laugh and cry her way through her own relationship roller coater rides.
After an unfortunate starter marriage to a lawyer and musician, Cathie learned to skip the wedded bliss bit and become a serial monogamist that included a marketing executive and sailor, a public relations executive and skier, and a software executive who had a sad demise.
Like May West said, she used to be Snow White, but she drifted. After Northwestern University, with a career focused on product launch and strategic marketing, her passion for movies led her to teaching seminars on how to use movies for team building and career coaching at corporations, colleges, and career centers. She holds a certificate in Positive Psychology and the Movies.
This book is excellent for those last minute movie picks, but don’t want to watch it again nights. It’s got sections on moods, and lists movies by their tear and laugh factor, which, surprisingly, matched my moods a lot. It seems to be a movie more for single women…but, that’s a good thing. A few chick flicks, but the laugh guide really does apply to men. This book would make a great gift for anyone who has likes movies. I hope they make new editions in the years to come.
